You can go to Montserrat by public transport, but it can take more than 2 hours. From your accommodation, you will have to go to Plaza de España. There take a train to Monistrol de Montserrat, and there take another train to the monastery.
My recommendation is to go by private transport. By car it takes 1h. You will save a lot of time.
