Special tour

Outside of a neoclassical building, La Llotja in Barcelona. Picasso's first art school.
Picasso took the tests and was admitted to the School of Fine Arts, La Llotja, when he was only 13 years old!

His beginnings at the School of Fine Arts, his first studio, his first exhibition, his first competition, and his first museum. Everything happened in Barcelona. Although short, the relationship between Pablo Picasso and Barcelona was very intense. He was born in Málaga, Andalucía, and spent his teenage years here. Barcelona was then an effervescent city in transformation.

The courtyard of a medieval palace is the entrance to the Picasso Museum in Barcelona.
The collection is housed inside five beautiful medieval palaces in the heart of Barcelona's old quarter.

Explore with me the early and fascinating works of the artist who revolutionized the art world with cubism. I will book your tickets to the museum, show you the collection, and explain why Picasso ended up painting like a child. Ask me anything you want to know about Picasso. Stop to look at the works you are most interested in for as long as you want, because is a private tour.

The Picasso Museum is very rich in its early period.  It’s a key reference for understanding the formative years of the artist. Going through an amazing young Picasso, you will understand why and how he became so famous.

Picasso museum in Barcelona, entrance to the temporary exhibition
In addition to the permanent collection, there are also temporary exhibitions that change during the year.

The best part of the collection is the series of “Las Meninas” painted when he was 76 years old.  A reinterpretation by Picasso of the famous painting by Diego Velázquez. Comparing on live his mature works with his teenage work is a privilege that highlights why Picasso became one of the most influential characters of the twentieth century. And this is only possible at the Picasso Museum in Barcelona.

Cubism is much more than a style. It meant a new philosophy and a different way of understanding art.
Exhibition at the Picasso Museum Barcelona. Las Meninas paintings and three visitors.
The Meninas series is a group of paintings that Picasso made expressly to be exhibited in this museum.

During the Picasso Museum tour, I'll explain some anecdotes and curious facts about the artist and his personal life. Picasso was a man with a very attractive personality and character, and it was reflected in his work. Ask me what you always wanted to know about Picasso and cubism.

All my tours are accessible for people with walking issues or wheelchair.

Pablo Diego José Francisco de Paula Juan Nepomuceno María de los Remedios Cipriano de la Santísima Trinidad Ruiz y Picasso.

Picasso was an artist in continuous evolution and learning. He developed his style in many disciplines, not only in painting. He dared to break with the academic art, inventing a new style that was key to reach abstraction. Picasso was the door to a new conception of art.

Cubism is Picasso’s most characteristic style. With Georges Braque, Picasso developed the theory of Cubism. This theory is much more than a style: it was the definitive break from traditional painting. It was the necessary preliminary step to abstraction.

Picasso had a younger sister, María Dolores Ruiz Picasso.

Picasso had four children with three women:

With Olga Khokhlova: Paulo Picasso (1921-1975).

With Marie-Thérèse Walter : Maya Widmaier-Picasso (b. 1935)

With Françoise Gilot : Claude Picasso (b. 1947) and Paloma Picasso (b. 1949)

Yes, Picasso expressed himself in various disciplines such as sculpture, ceramics, photography, or collage.

Yes, first to the Llotja School in Barcelona and later to the San Fernando School of Fine Arts in Madrid, although he never finished his studies. His father was an art teacher, so actually, he started his education at home from a very young age.

Picasso was born in Malaga in 1881 and died in 1973 in Mougins, France, at the age of 91. He is buried in Vauvenargues, France.

For political reasons. Like other artists, intellectuals, and scientists who were forced into exile by fascism. In Spain, after the civil war in 1939 began Franco’s dictatorship. With the “Guernika” Picasso showed his position against Franco’s regime. His art was considered degenerate and was not welcome in Spain. Picasso promised not to return to Spain until the end of Franco’s regime. But he was unlucky, as he died two years earlier without attending the inauguration of his museum in Barcelona.

Picasso was successful during his lifetime. He died rich and famous.

Picasso’s most expensive work is also the most expensive ever sold at auction: “Les Femmes d’Alger, version 0” sold for 179.4 million dollars.

The price of a tour is starting at 210€. The prices are for your total party, not per person. Entrance fees or other extra expenses (like food, drinks, or transport) are not included. Because each visit is customized contact me for a precise budget.
