One of the places you must visit if you come to Barcelona is Montjuïc hill. Panoramic views, culture, and sports define this urban park facing the Mediterranean. You can spend the whole day strolling through its gardens, but if you don’t want to miss the most important sights, it’s best to take a guided tour. I will show you the best views and, I will explain to you the history of the monuments and buildings of the Universal Exposition and the Olympic Games.

Montjuïc was the hill chosen as the site for the organization of the second international exposition in 1929. This urban park is one of the most emblematic places in the city. The principal access is from the Plaça d’Espanya. One of the most beautiful squares in Barcelona, with its Venetian towers and its “Magic Fountain” where the famous water, light, and music show have been held at sunset for almost a century.
In addition to the Palau Nacional, other buildings and attractions from 1929 have been preserved, such as the Poble Espanyol, an open-air architectural museum with stores, restaurants, and craft workshops. It is named “the Spanish village” because it is a full-scale reproduction of the most characteristic monuments of different towns in Spain. It is a unique museum of its kind.
Montjuïc was the central place for the 1992 Olympic Games. Many of the sports facilities are still in use today as the Olympic Stadium, some swimming pools, or the Palau Sant Jordi, a sports hall also used for cultural events and music concerts.
Several important museums of the city are here, such as the MNAC (National Art Museum of Catalonia), the Joan Miró foundation, the MAC (Archaeological Museum of Catalonia) or the Botanical garden. Other historic buildings are the Mies Van der Rohe Pavilion, the Casaramona factory by Puig I Cadafach, the Montjuïc castle, or the Greek theater.
In addition to walking through its gardens, in Montjuïc, you can take a cable car ride and enjoy extraordinary panoramic views. Is undoubtedly one of the most pleasant places in Barcelona.
